A great Peltex substitute I’ve recently discovered is Stiffy (yes, Stiffy…) from Long Creek Mills. Not only is it inexpensive ($42 for a 35 yard roll), it’s just a hair stiffer than Peltex AND is a small family-run company.
Is double sided fusible interfacing washable?
They can be washed or dry-cleaned. Other types of Pellon® interfacings are woven, knitted or weft-inserted. Interfacing may also be fusible or sew-in.
What is Pellon stabilizer?
Pellon® 70 Peltex® Ultra-Firm Sew-In is an ultra firm, smooth, heavyweight, sew-in stabilizer for extra support. It is excellent for accessories, crafts, home decorating, and quilting. Peltex® is easy to sew, even when sandwiched in between other fabrics. It will not flatten or distort with steam pressing.
Is Peltex the same as Timtex?
Timtex is thinner than Peltex by about a half and feels like flexible cardstock. It comes in only one type which is sew-in. There is a product called Fast2fuse which is supposedly the fusible type of Timtex. In fact it’s quite thin and mushy compared to both Peltex and Timtex.

Pellon® 526 Decovil is a non-woven iron-on interfacing with a sturdy, leather like handle. 526 Decovil is a thicker, slightly heavier alternative to the 525 Decovil Light. It is tear-resistant, but also dimensionally stable and easy to shape.

Should you prewash fusible interfacing? Some fusible interfacings will shrink when washed in your final garment. Pre-shrinking your interfacing will help stop this. However, some fusible interfacings are labeled as “no pre-washing required”, like the Pellon PLF36.
