What is a MicroMapper?

The MICROMAPPER is a hand-held cable tester that enables network professionals to quickly and easily verify the integrity of Ethernet twisted pair cables. The tone generator function can be used with the MicroProbe cable tracer to trace cables and locate cables hidden in ceilings, walls, floors, and bundles.

What is a wire map tester?

A wire mapping tester transmits signals through each wire in a copper twisted-pair cable to determine if it is connected to the correct pin at each end. The wire mapping tester can detect all problems that render a cable run inoperable.

What is Wiremap?

A “wiremapper” is basically a continuity checker that determines if pins are correctly connected. Most of the failures are simple enough to understand, like reversed wires in a pair, crossed pairs, opens or shorts. The most difficult wiremap problem is a split pair, when one wire on each pair is reversed on both ends.

How do I test an Ethernet cable on my computer?

To test this:

  1. Get an ethernet cable tested. You can easily check to see if the cable is bad using this test.
  2. Plug one end into the tester and the other to the ethernet port to see if it indicates you have a full connection.
  3. Plug the other end into the RX receiver jack until it clicks.

How does a loopback plug work?

Also called a “wrap plug,” it plugs into an Ethernet or serial port and crosses over the transmit line to the receive line so that outgoing signals can be redirected back into the computer for testing. Resistors are often used to simulate path loss in a real circuit.

How can one tell whether the cable is straight through or crossover?

Crossover cables use two different wiring standards: one end uses the T568A wiring standard, and the other end uses the T568B wiring standard. To determine if you have a straight-through or crossover cable, compare the Ethernet cables to see if the colors are wired in the same order on each end.

Can a damaged Ethernet cable slow down internet?

Ethernet cables are one of the most important elements of any electric system. If they don’t work properly, the rest of the network would become nonfunctioning. Any type of disruption would make faulty Ethernet Cable’s performance slow.
