Percy Jewett Burrell was a well known author and director
Percy Jewett Burrell, Alpha (New England) 1899, (pictured at right in 1911) was at one time in the 1930s the nation's preeminent author and director of historical, patriotic, and religious drama. Most of these were large productions commemorating the anniversary of a community or event. In many cases thousands of performers were involved, and over 100,000 people came under his direction during his career.
Burrell was the Fraternity's sixth Supreme President from 1907-1914. Some of Sinfonia's most important writings, including the first Initiation Ritual, were authored by Burrell, who was perhaps the primary articulator of the Fraternity's philosophy in its early days. In advance of the 50th anniversary of the Fraternity, Burrell wrote a play based on the founding of Sinfonia titled "Sinfonia Birthday." It was premiered to the attendees of the 1948 National Convention in Chicago, Ill.
