The 1910 National Convention

In the early years of the Fraternity, National Conventions were held annually. One hundred years ago, the tenth National Convention was held May 10-12, 1910. It was hosted by the Delta Chapter at the Ithaca Conservatory of Music in Ithaca, New York.

The national officers for the convention were:

Supreme Vice President: Edward F. Delaney, Eta (Cinncinati College) 1901
Supreme Secretary: Harold S. Williams, Zeta (Missouri) 1907
Supreme Treasurer: Archie M. Garner, Alpha (New England Conservatory) 1898
Supreme Historian: Wilson H. Pile, Beta (Combs College) 1900
A number of important decisions were made at the 1910 convention relating to symbols that are still in use today, including:

  Coat of Arms adopted
  Modern pin adopted
Gold adopted as the fraternity's third color
  New membership shingle adopted

Additionally, the National Assembly voted to adopt a provisional ritual for one year.
