Campaign Success is Building Upon the Rock, Preserving Our Future
Earlier this year, even in the midst of a struggling economy, Sigma Nu's capital campaign, Building Upon the Rock, Preserving Our Future eclipsed the $10 million mark and has reached 71% of its $14 million goal.
The campaign was conceived out the need to:
|
 |
 |
|
provide additional support and programming to our collegiate chapters through the Fraternity's award-winning LEAD Program, |
 |
|
enable our chapters the opportunity for competitive housing, |
 |
|
offer academic incentives through scholarships, and |
 |
|
invest in the historic preservation of the Headquarters Shrine of Sigma Nu. |
Support raised through the Building Upon the Rock campaign will enhance our ability
to develop ethical leaders who are inspired by the principles of Love, Honor, and Truth and
foster the personal growth of the mind, heart, and character of our young undergraduate members.
For example, two-term Lt. Commander and education major Andrew Smith
(Vanderbilt) commented on the value of the LEAD Program in his life and in the lives
of his chapter brothers: "Not only did I significantly improve my communication and
conflict management skills through the LEAD Program, but I also had the opportunity
to develop my public speaking and facilitation skills as a student facilitator. The
program helps brothers build stronger relationships with each other in a safe
environment of trial and error, while also helping them connect in valuable ways with
successful alumni and professors as guest facilitators. LEAD has prepared me for
leadership with the Fraternity, the university, the community, and in my internships
and jobs. The LEAD program is a significant contributor to the fact that our chapter at
Vanderbilt has over 90% of its members in leadership positions in other organizations
on campus."
Sigma Nu desires to be the best Fraternity in the nation--a Fraternity that all men
want to join because it stands for honor, leadership, and brotherhood. In order to
obtain this lofty goal, we must have the resources to fund these important programs
and our staff who execute these initiatives. To date, the following campaign support
has been raised from our loyal alumni:
| |
Raised To Date |
Fundraising Goal |
| LEAD & Unrestricted |
$2,800,000 |
$4,000,000 |

Currently, the two areas of greatest need for additional funding include unrestricted
gifts and planned gifts. Annual unrestricted cash gifts and pledges support today's
programming and operational needs as prioritized by the Board, while planned giving
plays a significant role in preparing for future opportunities. Click here to hear from
Campaign Chairman Jim Cherry about our vision for Building Upon the Rock and
Preserving Our the Future through this $14 million fundraising effort.
We need alumni support now more than ever. While we realize the economic climate
is unruly, the mission of the Fraternity is not in a recession. The Fraternity depends
on undesignated funds to support the educational programs and services made
available to all Sigma Nu Chapters, including: our award-winning LEAD Program,
consultant visitations, GreekLifeEdu, the Helping Hand Initiative, the Pursuit of
Excellence Program, the Sigma Nu Institutes, College of Chapters, and Grand
Chapter. You can learn more about the campaign by visiting the Building Upon the Rock
campaign website.
When the necessary resources are available, our Fraternity can accomplish great
things. For example, in 2008-2009:
 |
|
Sigma Nu Institutes grew from 6 to 8 sessions with 84 chapters (31% growth) and 368 participants (49% growth) attending. |
 |
|
Consultants presented 200 LEAD sessions for chapters this year (23% more than last year). |
 |
|
Consultants trained 2915 officers this year (22% more than last year). |
 |
|
Average chapter size increased from 42 to 45 men this year over last year. |
 |
|
Our community service effort, the Helping Hand Initiative, had grown 30% at the halfway mark of the program this year. |
 |
|
GreekLifeEdu, an expanded version of AlcoholEdu, had 370 more participants this year than last year. |
We extend our gratitude to each member of the Legion of Honor who has helped us
make significant progress toward our $14 million goal! You're a significant part of all
we've accomplished. Thank you for Building Upon the Rock, Preserving Our Future.
