Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. Named to 2009 Associations Advance America Honor Roll
Lexington, Va. – Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. has been named to the 2009 Associations Advance America Honor Roll, a national awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) & The Center for Association Leadership in Washington, DC.
Sigma Nu received the award for its LEAD (Leadership, Ethics, Achievement and

Development) Program. The LEAD Program is a four-year, multi-phase, ethical leadership development and membership education initiative. The experiential-learning format of the program provides an engaging supplement to the institutional knowledge obtained by collegiate participants. Furthermore, online accessibility expands participation to alumni, college/university personnel and beyond. Participants in the LEAD Program have identified a confidence to initiate change, a clearer idea of how personal ethics reflect values and a stronger desire to hold others accountable for their actions.
Now in its 19th year, the prestigious Associations Advance America (AAA) Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward – with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship and community service. Although association activities have a powerful impact on everyday life, they often go unnoticed by the general public.
“Sigma Nu’s LEAD Program truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign. It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions that associations are making to advance American society,” remarked Associations Advance America Committee Chair Janet C. Gibbs, chief financial officer of Feeding America.
Headquartered in Lexington, Va., Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded in 1869 at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington and currently has 184 active chapters and colonies on college campuses throughout North America. |
